First published in an omnibus edition back in October of 1985, the Stephen King omnibus ‘The Bachman Books’ collected together the first four Richard Bachman novels: ‘Rage’ (1977), ‘The Long Walk’ (1979), ‘Roadwork’ (1981) and ‘The Running Man’ (1982).
The collection was taken out of print in the US due to supposed links between the novel ‘Rage’ (1977) and real-world school shootings. In the UK the collection has however been reissued with ‘Rage’ (1977) removed from the collection.
The original book contains the following titles. Click on the titles for detailed in-depth dissections of each novel:
- Rage (1977)
- The Long Walk (1979)
- Roadwork (1981)
- The Running Man (1982)
The collection also includes a six-page foreword by Stephen King titled ‘Why I Was Bachman’ in which the author explains his reasoning for having a pseudonym, about the eventual reveal that he was Bachman, the reception of these novels and his enjoyment at creating a fictional author persona.
The omnibus runs for a total of 804 pages.
