NEW REVIEW: Guy N Smith - The Haunting Of Pocklington's Walk (2016)

Posted by Chris Hall on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, In : New Review
With this year’s Annual Guy N Smith Fan Convention looming, what better time to read and review another exclusive convention attendees chapbook.  This time it’s of ‘The Haunting Of Pocklington’s Walk’ (2016) which was handed out to all of those who attended the September 2016 annual fan convention...

Posted by Chris Hall on Monday, August 21, 2017, In : New Review
If you’ve not checked out Darkwater Syndicate’s award-winning ‘Shadows And Teeth’ series yet, then trust me, you’re seriously missing out on some damn fine horror anthology goodness.  Not only that but these books seem to be getting better and better.

DLS Reviews lays ‘Shadows And Teeth: Volume Three’ (2017) out on the mortuary table to deliver a full story-by-story dissection of the beast.  And what a ferocious beast it is…

NEW REVIEW: Guy N Smith - Come On In And Join Us (2004)

Posted by Chris Hall on Sunday, August 20, 2017, In : New Review
Another day, another Guy N Smith chapbook dissected and added to the ever-expanding pages of DLS Reviews.  Here we have Smith’s ‘Come On In And Join Us’ (2004) which was published as a limited edition hand-numbered standalone chapbook by Horror Express Publications back in 2004.

Okay, so this one was a bit of a cheat.  The story had already been reviewed on DLS Reviews a number of years ago.  As such this new review doesn’t add much new, other than details on the chapbook itself.

NEW REVIEW: Guy N Smith - Beneath The Blue Blanket (2015)

Posted by Chris Hall on Saturday, August 19, 2017, In : New Review
DLS Reviews continues working through the Guy N Smith chapbooks, dissecting each in turn, as a way of recording their existence rather than anything else.  Next up we have the short chapbook ‘Beneath The Blue Blanket’ (2015) which was handed out to all those who attended the annual fan convention in September of 2015.

NEW REVIEW: Guy N Smith - Hunting Big Cats In Britain (2000)

Posted by Chris Hall on Monday, August 14, 2017, In : New Review
With the theme for this year’s Annual Guy N Smith Fan Convention being ‘Dangerous Wild Animals in Britain’, what better time to read and review Guy’s well-informed overview on the subject of big cats potentially living wild in Britain.

Originally published through Guy’s own Blackhill Books in 2000 (with a subsequent reprint in 2004), and then later rereleased in a new edition through Ghostwriter Publications in 2009, Guy N Smith’s chapbook ‘Hunting Big Cats In Britain’ (2000) o...

NEW REVIEW: Guy N Smith - Various Crabs Chapbooks (2009)

Posted by Chris Hall on Monday, July 17, 2017, In : New Review
One of the things that DLS Reviews has been attempting to do is catalogue some of the more obscure or limited publications.  One author who has had a number of incredibly limited publications and ‘fan convention only’ offerings over the years is Guy N Smith.

Slowly but surely DLS Reviews will be reviewing each and every title, as a way of not only providing an in-depth dissection of the publications, but also documenting their existence.

As such, the following chapbooks have all now been ad...

NEW REVIEW: Guy N Smith - Hell Of A Guy: Fans On The Rampage (2016)

Posted by Chris Hall on Sunday, January 8, 2017, In : New Review

I have to confess I’ve been sitting on this review for a while!  However various work commitments and the like have gotten in the way of me proofreading and finally posting this up.  But I’ve finally done it.

As many of you may recall, back in 2016, Justin Park and I put together a special never-to-be-published one-off hardback anthology to celebrate twenty five years of the Guy N Smith convention.  It contained seventeen short stories written by some of his most dedicated fans.  The e...

NEW REVIEW: Guy N Smith - Doomflight (1981)

Posted by Chris Hall on Saturday, August 27, 2016, In : New Review
With just a week to go until the annual Guy N Smith convention is once again upon us (this being the 25th anniversary of the conventions as well) there’s really no better time to get stuck into another one of the great scribbler’s pulpy offerings.

Thinking of building a modern airport on an ancient Druid sacrificial site?  You might first want to head over to DLS Reviews to find out the potential consequences, where you’ll find a full dissection of Smith’s wonderfully bleak pulp horror...

NEW REVIEW: Guy N Smith - Cannibals (1986)

Posted by Chris Hall on Sunday, August 14, 2016, In : New Review
With the annual Guy N Smith convention edging ever closer, I thought it fitting to get another one of the Godfather of Pulp’s titles dissected over at DLS Reviews.  And what better one to choose than the gore-drenched masterpiece that is ‘Cannibals’ (1986)…

NEW REVIEW: Guy Portman - Symbiosis (2016)

Posted by Chris Hall on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, In : New Review
Back in May of 2014, just four days after DLS Reviews was launched, the very first review was added to the site (the website launched with a few hundred pre-existing reviews already on there).

The review was of an incredibly dark serial killer comedy – nestling somewhere between ‘Dexter’ and ‘American Psycho’.  Penned by a British author by the name of Guy Portman – the book was entitled ‘Necropolis’ (2014) and got awarded the lion’s share of DLS skulls.

Now a little less than...

NEW REVIEW: Guy N Smith - Spawn Of The Slime Beast (2015)

Posted by Chris Hall on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, In : New Review
So, back in March 2015 DLS Reviews was honoured to be given the opportunity to interview pulp horror veteran and absolute master of genre fiction - Guy N Smith (Click here to read the interview).  In the interview, Smith announced the planned publication of a sequel to his original classic pulp tale ‘The Slime Beast’ (1975).  And sure enough, in June 2015 ‘Spawn Of The Slime Beast’ (2015) was released.

And I’m pleased to say that it’s every bit as grim and gory and utterly over-the...

NEW INTERVIEW: Guy N Smith - March 2015

Posted by Chris Hall on Friday, March 20, 2015, In : New Interview
I’m over the moon to announce that the second interview to appear on DLS Reviews is now up on the website, and it’s with the incredibly prolific godfather of pulp horror himself – Guy N Smith.

Guy is one of the friendliest and most approachable individuals I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet.  Over the last five years or so, I’m fortunate enough to have been able to start calling Guy a friend.  Although I still see him as one of my heroes, Guy’s annual fan convention has allowed me ...

NEW REVIEW: Pipe Dreams - An Autobiography - Guy N. Smith (2013)

Posted by Chris Hall on Thursday, October 2, 2014, In : New Review
Guy N Smith is a legend.  He’s the undeniable godfather of pulp horror.  An undisputed master of the subgenre.  He’s had over a hundred books published.  His literary career alone is quite remarkable.  But that’s not Smith’s only achievement.  He’s had an unbelievably full and varied life.  With so many different career paths, hobbies and experiences.

And now he’s finally penned his autobiography.  Entitled ‘Pipe Dreams’ (2013), the book is a flying overview of Smith’s ja...

NEW REVIEW: Andy Remic - Vivisepulture (2011)

Posted by Chris Hall on Friday, August 15, 2014, In : New Review

Another new review has been added to DLS Reviews.  It’s for an anthology that was edited by Andy Remic and Wayne Simmons entitled ‘Vivisepulture’ (2011).  The brief behind the book was to offer up a collection of weird stories with the primary drive of presenting twisted deviations of normality.

And I have to say - mission well and truly accomplished.

It’s an interesting mix of some mighty strange tales, with some darn good names in there to draw in the punters (Guy N Smith, Wayne S...

NEW REVIEW: Guy N Smith - The Truckers: No. 1 - The Black Knights (1977)

Posted by Chris Hall on Thursday, August 7, 2014, In : New Review
Another novel I really should have gotten around to reading earlier.  Pulp horror master, Guy N Smith’s early gritty-thriller novel ‘The Truckers: No. 1 – The Black Knights’ (1977) is the next addition to DLS Reviews.

It’s suitably pulpy.  Plenty of violence and debauchery.  Just what you’d expect from a Guy N Smith novel.  Love it!

NEW REVIEW: Guy Portman - Necropolis (2014)

Posted by Chris Hall on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, In : New Review
So here we are – Blog Entry #2.  The bank holiday weekend’s been and gone, and the websites now been up for the grand total of four days.  Since it launched I’ve been trying to sort out a few font and formatting errors that appeared, alongside adding in links to Amazon.co.uk across the entirety of the website, now that the site is officially an ‘Amazon Associate’.

But hey, I’ve got a hell of a lot to smile about right now.  Not only did the launch go relatively glitch-free, but it...
