NEW REVIEW: Mike Duke - Ashley's Tale: Making Jake (2016)

Posted by Chris Hall on Saturday, January 21, 2017, In : New Review
Back in October of 2015 US author Mike Duke released his debut novella – ‘Ashley’s Tale’ (2015).  It was a hardboiled revenge-thriller that knocked the living shit out of you.  It also left many unanswered questions surrounding one of the principal characters in the story – Jake.

Mike Duke has returned to the ‘Ashley’s Tale’ story with his equally gritty prequel – ‘Ashley’s Tale: Making Jake’ (2016).  If you’ve not yet read the original story then I strongly advise yo...

NEW REVIEW: Stuart Keane - Grin (2015)

Posted by Chris Hall on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, In : New Review
Brutal.  Uncompromising. Adrenaline-pumping.  Disturbing.  Just a few choice words to describe Stuart Keane’s extreme horror novel ‘Grin’ (2015).  To quote the review that’s just gone up on DLS Reviews “It reads like someone’s taken Shaun Hutson down a long, dark alleyway and told him to write the nastiest, most violent and uncompromising vengeance-fuelled thriller he can, or his family will get it.”

Yeah – this is some hard-hitting nasty shit we’ve got here.  Enjoy…

NEW REVIEW: Guy N Smith - Hell Of A Guy: Fans On The Rampage (2016)

Posted by Chris Hall on Sunday, January 8, 2017, In : New Review

I have to confess I’ve been sitting on this review for a while!  However various work commitments and the like have gotten in the way of me proofreading and finally posting this up.  But I’ve finally done it.

As many of you may recall, back in 2016, Justin Park and I put together a special never-to-be-published one-off hardback anthology to celebrate twenty five years of the Guy N Smith convention.  It contained seventeen short stories written by some of his most dedicated fans.  The e...

Happy New Year y'all!

To kick start a whole new year of horror and dark fiction reviewing, what better way than with another 'Crossed' graphic novel?  Here we have 'Crossed Volume Nine: Badlands' (2014).  Expect the usual extreme graphic violence and over-the-top levels of gore - especially with Simon Spurrier's story.  It's a beauty!

Posted by Chris Hall on Friday, January 6, 2017, In : New Review
**Posted 30 December 2016**

Christmas might be over, but the winter festivities can still carry on.  Over at DLS Reviews that’s exactly what’s happening. It’s Friday night, there’s still half-a-tub of Twiglets left in the cupboard, and I’ve still got half a fridge full of Christmas ales.  Oh yeah…and Adam Millard’s festive treat – ‘The Human Santapede’ (2014) to mull over.

If you’ve not had the pleasure of Millard’s work before then you’re in for an absolute treat.  ...
