NEW REVIEW: Melanie Tem - The Yellow Wood (2015)

Posted by Chris Hall on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, In : New Review
Next to be put under the DLS Reviews spotlight is Melanie Tem’s last offering before she sadly passed away – a quietly unsettling tale entitled ‘The Yellow Wood’ (2015).  Admittedly, not the most impactful or action-rich of story’s, instead Tem’s novel creeps under your skin and slowly influences your senses.

Beautifully written and enchanting in its lyrical prose.  Such as shame that this is the last tale to come from such a talented author.

NEW REVIEW: Benjamin Kane Ethridge - Bottled Abyss (2012 / 2015)

Posted by Chris Hall on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, In : New Review
Next to be dissected and dismembered for DLS Reviews is Horrific Tales Publishing’s updated 2015 rerelease of Benjamin Kane Ethridge’s second full-length novel ‘Bottled Abyss’ (2012).

If you fancy a lonely walk into an abyss of desperation and despair – marrying Greek Mythology with a modern-day backdrop, then this is very possibly one for you.  It’s a grim read.  In fact, it’s so full of negativity that it’s hard to smile for some time after reading it.  But goddam if it’s n...

NEW REVIEW: Kit Power - The Loving Husband And The Faithful Wife (2014)

Posted by Chris Hall on Thursday, April 16, 2015, In : New Review
Next to be added to DLS Reviews is British author Kit Power’s double-short-story ebook offering entitled ‘The Loving Husband And The Faithful Wife’ (2014).  In a nutshell you have two good-lengthed short stories, written in a Richard Laymon-esque prose, with some really quite gritty (and eventually brutal) undertones.

Utterly entertaining.  If you haven’t checked out any of Kit Power’s stuff yet – then I strongly urge you to correct this oversight now.

NEW REVIEW: Mark Morris - The Spectral Book Of Horror Stories (2014)

Posted by Chris Hall on Saturday, April 11, 2015, In : New Review
Back in September of 2014 British horror author, Mark Morris, released his first short story anthology ‘The Spectral Book Of Horror Stories’ (2014) through Spectral Press.  His plan was to make the anthology an eagerly anticipated annual publication celebrating the very best of short horror fiction in the vein of the ‘Pan Book Of Horror Stories’ (1959 – 1989).  And if this first offering is anything to go by, the books are going to be pretty much essential reading for fans of contem...

NEW REVIEW: Splatterpunk Zine - Issue 2

Posted by Chris Hall on Saturday, April 4, 2015, In : New Review
Really enjoying working through the previous issues of Splatterpunk Zine.  Now dissected and reviewed on DLS Reviews is ‘Splatterpunk Zine – Issue 2’ (2012).  And I have to say that the first story in there, ‘Fair Trade’ by Jeff Strand, is an absolute belter.

If you’re not already buying each issue of this zine…then why the hell not?!  Absolutely great stuff.
