NEW REVIEW: Clive Barker - Nightbreed Epic Comics #4 & 5 (1990)

Posted by Chris Hall on Sunday, July 20, 2014, In : New Review
Continuing on from the last additions to DLS Reviews, we have the next two comic book instalments into the original Epic Comics ‘Nightbreed’ series.

Nightbreed: Issue 4 is the final part in the comic book adaptation from Barker’s original screenplay.  And it’s an absolute belter.

Nightbreed: Issue 5 is the first instalment to continue on with the Nightbreed legacy away from Barker’s original story.  It sees a new writer and new comic book artists replacing those from the original four...

NEW REVIEW: Clive Barker - Nightbreed Epic Comics #1, 2 & 3 (1990)

Posted by Chris Hall on Saturday, July 19, 2014, In : New Review
Three new reviews on DLS Reviews today.  In fact, I’ve embarked upon a new (well I say new but the series itself is actually quite old) comic book series.  To be honest, it really was about time I read the original Nightbreed comics.  And with Boom! Studios now bringing out a whole new series of Nightbreed comics, I was inspired to take the plunge.

So that I didn’t clutter up the entire ‘Graphic’ section (i.e. the page that includes links to all the graphic novel/comic book reviews), I...

NEW REVIEW: The Slide (2007) - BBC Radio Sci-Fi Audiobook

Posted by Chris Hall on Friday, July 18, 2014, In : New Review
Back to the BBC’s ‘Classic Radio Sci-fi’ audio presentations again, and this time we have Victor Pemberton’s ‘The Slide’ (2007) on the DLS dissection table.  To be honest, after reading the blub on the back of the box, I had very high hopes for it.  And it’s not a bad story, or in any way a poor dramatisation.  However I found it doesn’t quite live up to the expectations that the blurb instilled in my mind.

NEW REVIEW: Justin Rollins - The Lost Boyz (2011)

Posted by Chris Hall on Thursday, July 17, 2014, In : New Review
Another new review for the site.  This one for the powerful and hard-hitting autobiography ‘The Lost Boyz’ (2011) by ex-gang member Justin Rollins.  It’s a tough read.  Incredibly thought-provoking with some pretty darn important messages.

It’s also one of those reasonably rare books to receive the full 10/10 on the website.

NEW REVIEW: Sarah Lotz - The Three (2014)

Posted by Chris Hall on Sunday, July 13, 2014, In : New Review
Another review has been uploaded to the site.  This one for the new novel by South African author Sarah Lotz entitled ‘The Three’ (2014).  It’s a novel that I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who enjoys an original and inspired horror/sci-fi crossover.  It’s dark, it’s thought-provoking, and the attention to detail with its delivery makes for an utterly convincing read.

One of my favourite books of 2014 thus far…

NEW REVIEW: Koren Zailckas - Mother, Mother (2013)

Posted by Chris Hall on Saturday, July 5, 2014, In : New Review
A new review on DLS Reviews – and it’s one that’s a little removed from the usual horror, dark speculative fiction, dystopian sci-fi type of vibe.  Instead we have quite a downbeat story surrounding a completely dysfunctional family – with a narcissistic mother who controls the family with her compulsive lies and deceit.  Not a bad read.
